Dec. 17th, 2008 05:01 pmThe Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco is currently hosting ~200 pieces inspired by My Neighbor Totoro It's a traveling show for a thing Miyazaki started for 'Totoro's Forest'. Basically trying to get money to make a wildlife preserve from the forest that inspired Totoro/Pompoko/etc.
Yes. Now you can not just experience the crushing depression of watching a beautiful forest get destroyed, you can go, be surrounded by images inspired by it, and have the opportunity to donate in hopes you might help prevent its destruction.
A lot of really beautiful work but it wasn't exactly what I expected. So... If you love beautiful wild spaces and strange magical creatures and you don't mind tearing up and sniffling in public, I recommend visiting this collection before it, like the forest, disappears.
