This post is really for Paka, Perlandria, and Centauress, but any input from anyone else is more than welcome.
This is my guide to trying to start a no-budget animation group I started writing it for us but then made it more general as there is a group of people on AFF who keep saying they should collaborate and do an animation project together, so I shared it with them.
I think an important first goal we should make is setting a finite length to weekly meetings. I also want to go on record saying I don't think I'm qualified to take the Production role, nor Director, and Jonathan is probably a better candidate for senior animator. I'm best as a secondary animator and maybe sound mixing and compositing. Dunno what roles everyone wants, that's something we can figure out at the meeting.
I also put together a first-few-meetings-to-do list but it is probably overly ambitious and a little vague and most likely skips a lot of stuff. that's why we need that Grumpy Gnome role filled ASAP. Anyhow, looking foreward to seeing you all. :)

In my experience, that scares away folks from a project, when it looks like it's going to be more work than fun. (To which my response is, it's animation, it's going to have to involve work at some point!) Maybe I'm just hanging out with the wrong folks.
Plus yeah, roles will probably be combined, they have to with a small group. But then again, look at the credits of some of the ol' Warner Bros. or Disney cartoons, just a handful (relatively) of folks.
Regarding Foley work, there's plenty of professional sound companies (most with web sites) out there that have good inexpensive sound effects. I've found it best to work with a mix of such effects with custom made ones, since some things I just don't have access to (like a nuclear explosion, for instance.) Also a time saver as well. Then again some are easy to do (like using a baking pan for duct sounds.) Fun, yup.
I wouldn't mind lending myself as an animator. I'm a bit rusty, not having finished anything animation related in years. I don't mind being an animator grunt (I mean inbetweener) though.
