Heh! Some spammer finally got wise for e-mail harvesting and sent out a spam that's sure to sucker geeks. :) An excerpt follows:

Dear potential speaker:

We are pleased to invite you to submit a paper to one of the following
multi, inter, and trans disciplinary conferences dedicated to advances
in computer/internet science and engineering (papers with impacts on
other scientific fields are given advantage):

... Or at least I assume it's a spam mail since this didn't come to my work account
and was unsolicited.

Of course it's spam. No serious conference sends out blanket emails calling for papers from unknown entities. Who would want to peer review the dregs that would flow from such a recruitment methodology? And without peer review, who would want to fly across the country/ocean to attend such a conference?

I grepped my mailspool to see if I'd gotten the same — I get a lot of spam — but I haven't. I've seen a lot of spam that pretends to be job placement/recruitment correspondence. This could be a new variation of that.
