Oh goodie. Chuck and Larry is opening this weekend. I will be ECSTATIC to quit seeing commercials for this fucking piece of garbage.

If you haven't heard of it, be happy. Basically the premise is that gays get special rights that hard-working blue collar straight men aren't afforded so two homophobic jackasses pretend to be gay in order to get some benefits deal. Naturally of course, a very attractive woman falls madly in love with one of these mono-browed cretins because a disgusting schlub prancing around with a fake lisp is oh-so-sexy.

But you know the part that REALLY pisses me off about this one? It's a fucking PG-13 rating. HORRAY FOR AMERICA!!!!! If this film were about two guys who actually loved each other, it'd automatically get an R-rating dead minimum. THIS IS OUR SICK TWISTED SHITTY AMERICAN VALUES.

Hate and bigotry are for kids! YAY AMERICA! And you wonder why we breed more serial killers than any other nation on the planet.

Where do you see commercials for it? You still watch TV?

Ads on websites, television... They play these commercials during news and during the anime I watch. We've seen two different trailers in the theater... Alsa, we watched Transformers. That this movie was one of the trailers should've told me to walk out right then.

Oooh. Good thing we missed the beginning of Transformers, then.

I too have seen a few ads for it and they've all made my skin crawl.

I've only seen the ads in the subway for it and was fearing the worst, but the ad doesn't tell much about the movie. I'd actually been wondering if I was too hopelessly cynical and jumping to conclusions about the movie... but from this post, I'm guessing it's as offensive as my fears had led me to believe.

Oh. I'm sure it will put on a feebly 'pro-gay' ending, See comment to Cargo below.

Yes, chuck&larry, the gay panic movie. You just know it'll end with them learning a Valuable Lesson about how gays really aren't that bad but gosh, it sure is awesome to be heterosexual.

Certainly, and of course, we'll get a lot of laughs at the fat guy. More importantly though, we'll still have thrown around that message that gays get 'Special Rights' that are unfair for straight guys. So Joe-jackass can take home that message and the one about how Hollywood luvs queers. It'll also give him plenty of new hate material to use, all packaged up neatly in the guise of being queer-friendly. This is that thing I was talking about with SouthPark a while back.

Don't get me started on the politics of south park, seriously. Although at least they're funny. :)

So I went and poked around online for it, so my opinion is second hand, based on reviews...

What's especially poignant is that the plot makes no sense because of current American attitudes. So I suppose maybe it should be classified as a science fiction comedy.

And oy, there's the expected heterosexual thread. And the expected moment at the end about kids, faggots are just people too. I suppose that this is all so imminently predictable and forgettable maybe makes up for the subject matter being lame as fuck. But it makes me almost as bothered about lame movies as it does about the dismissive attitude towards any minority.

It's like science fiction, except it's nothing to do with science. It's... social fiction!
