Ah yes. I forget how young you are. You're one of those people who's grown up with 5000 channels of crap on cable with which to addle your mind.
As a child we had 4 TV channels on a good day and the BEST regular shows they played were of the grade of Dukes of Hazard and edited down re-runs of Casper the Friendly Ghost or Tom and Jerry.
We practically lived for Sherman Oaks and Mr. Pickle's Saturday Night Creature Feature. Every weekend TWO, count em TWO classic 50's B sci-fi or monster movies! And when we finally got a video tape machine, B movies were my brother and I's favorite fare. We'd front the 50 cent rental cost ourselves and stay up all night watching really really bad films all summer long.
If you'd had that experience, you would understand just how brilliant Mars Attacks is, but I suppose you'll never understand. It's probably too late now. You're spoiled with decent special effects and convincing costumes. Feh.
